thats the tank i've been playing with it for a while my levels are

ammonia 0
nitrites 0
nitrates 5 mgl/ppm
ph 7
kh 12
phosphate 0.25 mgl/ppm
iorn 0.2 mgl/ppm

co2 works out as 39 mgl/ppm bit hi i know

the tank is 36 litres and had 2 ottos, 6 green neon tetra, and 1 betta today im down to 4 tetra and 1 otto

the otto was found at the bottom of the tank dead stiff one tetra was found on my carpet the other is just missing

any advice welcome

As for the otto, have no clue on that one

The tetras both prob jumped out of the tank. would recommend getting a lid that covers the whole top to stop them from getting out if they do jump. To find the second teatra, try looking behind the stand or behind something near the tank as they seem to be able to find the little nooks to dry up in...

Ahh sorry to hear that mate.

In my mind the dead fish & fish jumping out of the water points to the same thing: Something nasty in the water.

I'd say 36ppm but this is not high, most ppl aim for 30ppm. Best indicators of high CO2 are the fish themselves. If they are not gasping / sluggish etc then CO2 not the root cause.

Your stats are fine. Tank looks good (nice setup BTW).

Extra info therefore needed:
Tank temp?
Filtration type?
Lighting Levels?
Any Chemical Additives or Media in your tank?
Plants used?
Substrate used?
Any recent additions to your tank (living or decoration)?
Exposure to chemicals - think also externally such as air sprays, cleaners etc. etc.?
Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, colour, location, fish behaviour)
Frequency of water changes?

More info the better really.

Andy

PS
I'd try an immediate massive (>50%) water change (dechlorinated) if I were you.

Wow, can't believe I skipped right over the CO2 info but yes, high CO2 would def cause the fish to have problems, as in they can slowly sufficate.

well i've found the other tetra and thank god hes still alive in tank he must be bloody good at hiding,

temps 26 degrees
filtrations a fluval 1 with sponges
i have 3.6 watts per gallon
the only thing i add is seachem ferts
plants are swords, crypts, hair grass and ricca
substate is TetraPlant Complete
no
no
and water change once a week

The lose of the otos could just be the norm for them. The seem to die for no reason. I have never been able to keep them. They are all wild caught and shipped from South America. They don't travel very well and the stores generally experience about a 50% die-off in the first couple weeks after they arrive.

As for the jumpers, that is why is is really important to have a cover on your tank or leave the water level down 3 or 4 inches. Even that may not be enough.

The tanks overstocked.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Check the gills over to see if there red and inflamed, or pale with excess mucas on them.

Not a good idea to keep a Betta and tetras together, the tetras can be nippy at times and damage his fins, which could lead to fin rot etc.

Are you using any aquarium salt or other type of salt?
