Hi all

I've recently added a pair of young Kribensis in with my Rams and Cardinals, when I added the Kribs I also added 2 small caves for them to use, all is going well with them they get on fine its just that my Male Ram chasses them away but then he does that with everything in the tank.
just wondering if anyone else has had any experience in having Rams and Kribs together and how it went?

I am not an expert but what I would say is that, depending on the size of your tank you may have some territorial issues when breeding occurs.  Kribs are a african cichlid but are quite timid until they have free swimming fry, then they can become an absolute nightmare in a community tank.  Add to this that Rams are south american then they may miscommunicate warning signs to one another and all out war could ignite.  If you have all same sex (male or Female of each species) then I wouldnt see a problem with it

I kept a pair of rams and a pair of kribs, and they danced at eachother but no harm done, just a bit active toward the middle of the tank.  They did squabble over who got what side but once that was figured out it was fine. (both were male female pairs, kribs are the only ones that ever bred) it's a 55 gallon tank with lots of caves and plants.

It's a remarkably commonly asked question, people report success, generally those with larger tanks, but it's often written off as not being ideal given the slight variations in water conditions between the fish, the fact that they tend to occupy the same area around the lower segment of the tank and that the kribs can become quite aggressive when they get larger, especially if breeding, but these are cichlids and you'll occasionally end up with some rams that dominate the tank.

If the tank is well sized, and laid out properly, then you should get away with it with no trouble.

thanks for your replies, they seem okay, its rather funny to watch the Ram will chase them away and they will both sometimes follow him kinda taunting him, but normally they will hide and that will be it till a few minutes later
