Ram Rubbing On Rocks.....

Not sounding good. Does he turn upside down. Does he have a sunken in belly. Have you noticed him going to the toilet.

i have not see him upsidedown yet and the belly looks quite normal and i have not seen him go toilet but have not really been looking for that..... am i looking because he wont go toilet or for something in his poop.....?

Can you issolate him.
Keep a close eye on him.
it could be anything from a parasites to internal parasites.
Have you been spraying anything near the tank.

i only have the one tank so cant isolate him unfortunatley. my wife says she has sprayed the windows with some type of cleaner yesterday....... i didnt know about this!!!!! i did a water change after this spraying event happened apparently.....

would a fry cage thing be suitable as i could get one tomorrow but he would still be in the same tank....

Do another water change.
Run some fresh black carbon.
Also add some fresh filter floss.
Issolate him to the little issolation tank.

will do another water change now, i removed the 2 carbon filters yesterday from my filter as they had been in there for over a month and i was told they become useless after a couple of weeks.. i have an aquaone ar620 tank that has the filter system in the hood so there is not much room for extra media etc but i could get some more of the carbon filters i had in. i will also go and get a fry cage and isolate him in that tomorrow. many thanks for your help and patience wilder it is much appreciated.

just one more question tho...... if it is an internal parasite or other parasite what should i look for and what do i need to do? remember i do have a loach in the tank

cheers again, matt.

ok just done about a 25% water change and added a different wool filter sheet (kept the old one and placed it on top to hopefully transfer some of the bacteria) dont know if this is the right thing to do but im sure it cant do any harm....... or can it?

my ram is now pretty much staying hidden away in the corner of the tank behind the pump, getting concerned now...... he is coming out now and then and rubbing against the heater. when i fed the fish earlier he fed ok but now has just gone to the corner just below the water line where i cant really see him as its next to a wall!

If a small amount of cleaner got into the tank it might of just affected the weaker fish.

Some of the symtoms point to flukes, but there no excess mucas or red inflamed gills.
Internal parasites can make fish flick and rub.
Signs of internal parasites are.
Long stringy white poo, or clear mucas poo.
Enlarged anus to red inflamed anus.
Sunken in tummy.
Fish will look skinny or bloated.
Worms prutruding from the anus.
Fish will sometimes swim on its side.
Bent spine sometimes.

Take a look here.

my ram this morning has a white almost flossy substance coming from its eye and another bit coming from his gill  i dont have a quarentine tank to put him in will the rest of my tank get whatever it is? do i need to treat the whole tank or just the 1 fish if i can seperate him? would a fry net /cage be ok for now or does he need to come out of the tank completely?

just noticed all 4 of my rams are now flicking against rocks, decor etc but none of the other species fish seem to be doing it. the rams fins are all tucked away and normally they would be displaying themselves off.

water test results for today are - nitrite = 0 ammonia = 0 nitrate = 10

water temp 26 degrees

should i treat the whole tank with something as i have no quarantine tank and dont want to loose all my fish? since yesterday when only 1 was doing this i now have all 4 doing it so its spreading and quite fast.....

i do have a polkadot loach in the tank if this makes a difference to th treatments required if any........

just been to lfs and got some medications. i have removed all the shrimp i could find and my snails and added 5ml of waterlife protozin..... the lfs said it was 99% ich (white spot) i hope they are right  my tank is 90L but i only added 5ml (enough for 75L) as i have a loach in there and they said to reduce the amount as he might react to it. i have read up on several disease it could be and narrowed it down to either ich or flukes but i have no red marks and no obvious white spots yet so took a gamble with ich. the bottle states that its not suitable for shrimps/ snails etc so they were removed,

am i ok to return the shrimps/ snails after treatment is over as it contains copper sulphate?

do i need to do water changes between treatments?

thanks, matt

thanks wilder. i guess if i keep doing several water changes it will eventually take the copper out and be safer for my shrimp/snails....
still not 100% if its ich or flukes as cant see any parasites or spots yet.....

Let me know how they get on.
