Hello,
I'll keep this short as this is my first posting here:
On Monday (Labor Day), I added my Rainbow Shark (named Jaws) and female Betta (named Helen) to their new home. I added 1 tablespoon of Aquarium Salt to their new tank and some bacterial from TopFin (along with water from their previous tanks with new water - half and half). These two live perfectly with each other; they may chase or scare each other here and there, but never any serious fighting. On Tuesday, I saw this little baby (I assume) female Betta that caught my eye at PetSmart, so I decided to add her to the tank. At first, Jaws and Helen chased her without end (for about the first 2 hours). After the intial hours, they were peaceful again. I woke on Wed to feed everyone and found no issues. When I cam home (around 4:30pm - left work at 6:15am), I found Shadow (the new female Betta) dead and lying on the tank bottom. I assmue it was Helen that was guilty, as she gave her the most trouble. After removing the body, I did a detailed cleaning and removed any and all debris from the tank. The water was not replaced (save for half a gallon of water that I was unable to reuse) and I added a 1/2 tablespoon of the Aquarium Salt to their tank. After I lectured my two kids (the fish), I made sure they ate their evening chow and went to bed (adding a piece of iceberg lettuse to the tank over night for Jaws...even though he never eats it). When I woke this morning, I noticed that Jaws has this spot on the top of his head and a small one to the right of the top one. I have never seen this on him before I do not know what it is. I took out the lettuse and fed them like usual and went to work. When I came home (one hour ago), the spot was still there, so I added some Korbon Rid Ich Plus Treatment (2.5 ml) to their tank to see if it will help.
Questions: What is wrong with Jaws? Could the spot be from stress of fungus? Should I remove him or is he find in the tank with Helen (she shows no issues)?
Info that might help:
Ammonia level: <.02
Water Temp.: 80 degrees
Jaws: his colors are bight (the orange) and his attitude has not changed. He swims and plays with Helen just like always. Hides when I get near in his little cave, but that was when I was taking the pictures.
Any advice would help or tips on what to do.
Thank you!
