Fish Herder
I think I have ick in the tank. Bought a keyhole cichlid this weekend and he has white spots (I do not have a Q tank sadly), small as a very small grain of sand, one on the tip of his fin is a bit bigger, in two days the "grains" have not moved. He is the only fish with the spots at this time. I'm bringing the temps up to 85F or 30C slowly. I'll get invert and cory safe medication today.
1. Anything special to do with the filter? I do not run carbon in my filters. Do I do anything else before medicating?
2. Worried about the corys. I have 4 albino corys, how long can they sustain 30C temps?
3. My angels are ready to spawn again, anything I need to do about the eggs if there is medication in the tank? I do not expect these eggs to make it, angels are very young, community tank with no place to keep babies. Just wondering if I should try to manually remove eggs before some fish eats them.
4. I'm right to be moving at the first sign of this right? Do I need to wait for anything? Should I find another tank just to medicate keyhole or assume the ich is in the tank now.
Tank: 60 US gallons, cycled since late March 2010 - stats have been VERY GOOD and VERY STABLE
Temp: 27C and rising (Usually I keep it constant at 25C)
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10
Ph 8.0
Medium low light live plants: crypts and anubias and vallis, java fern and moss.
Fish: Keyhole cichlid, 2 bolivian rams, 2 apistogamma dwarf cichlids, 4 albino corys, 2 angel fish, 7 congo tetras, 2 nerite snails, and amano shrimp but the keyhole is making snacks out of them.
Filters: Eheim 2215 and Aquaclear 70
Thanks just need a bit of guidance and reassurance that I got it right.
