Just bid on a 160litr tank on Ebay so fingers crossed

Anyways my question is

I am currently cyclng a 60 liter tank but if i win the bidding on the 160 liter one i would want to transfer the filter( Fluval 2 plus) and stuff over to the new tank would this be ok or would it interupt the cycle? will also be adding a fluval 4 plus filter once i find the filter pads

Also would a 100 watt heater be ok for a 160ltr tank or would i need more wattage?

Hi again, remember it's the filter you are cycling not the tank so by moving the filter into a new tank should not effect the process. Just remember to dechlorinate the new tank and get it up to temperature before the change over. And of course add your ammonia source.

I would suggest a 200-250w heater for a 160lt. (A 100w would do the job but it would be working more.)

I would use the water from the old tank in the new one, as it would provide some Nitrite that you can't put in yourself. Plus, it will be nice warm water and will save you a few pennies.

The 100W heater will probably be ok - although I'd be tempted to get something closer to 200W.

I guess for a 160L tank, you won't want my Jumbo filter - the fluval 4 will be perfect for that - and if you want extra, you can put the Fluval 2 on the other side.

Although if you do decide you want my Jumbo (will it fit!) then I have a 150W heater than fits inside it, which would do nicely for you.

The tank dimentions are 39"x22"17" (external dimentions) would that filter fit in?

this is the tank

Filter dimensions 196 x 156 x 463mm

Thats 18.5" tall - no good.

To be honest, it would look too big - stick with the pair of Fluvals mate, they are good internal filters. I used 3's and 4's for the last 5 years and they work great.

internals are cumbersome and take up loads of room, get a nice little external of there, keep the current internal running until the external media is up to speed then just take it out, unless you want to set the other tank up as well, in which case just put it back in and youve too tanks, di

That is a 240 litre tank so needs at least 750 LPH of filter when stocked. I think you would find an internal smaller than a 4+ is too small to be the sole filter for the tank. Maybe another 2+ to go with the one you are already cycling or go to one of the external filters like a Tetra-tec or a Rena.

Edit: I need to start proofing before saving
