Right, having got myself such a wonderful wife, I have managed to become owner of an Aquis 1250 canister filter.

This is a bit overkill for a 20 UK gallon tank.

Can anyone recommend the best way to restrict the flow rate?

Would a simple spray bar attachment be sufficient?

There should be taps on the unit itself. Use the outlet one to tweak :good: Using the inlet tap puts the pumphead under increased pressue and shortens it's life, as well as the life of the impeller and bearings. The Outlet tap will not, due to the way it applies pressure. Restricing the flow with the outlet tap will simply increase power consumption

Yeah, what he ^^^^ said :)

Although, you say it is overkill, theres not 'really' such a thing, what there is is the possibility of too much turbulance and tank 'swirl' from the output jet.
Rather than throttling back the flowrate of the filter by restriction, I'd be tempted to do something at the output end instead.
As you have though adding the spray bar will help to reduce the effect, and also if it's not enough I believe for the Aquis filters you can get extension pieces and elbows for the spray bars, so in theory you could have a spray bar that circled the tank, thus reducing the flowrate from each individual jet :) :good:
