Just tryin to nurse my albino cichlid, and grabbed some melafix. Hes all by himself in the 25. It says i should remove the active carbon just a few q's: How long should i leave the carbon out for? and should it be stored in a lil bit of tank water? TIA

Hi...replacing the carbon would extract the medication from the aquarium water, so, I wouldn't replace until your ailing fish is better and you are going to stop treatment. If it was my choice, I would toss the old carbon and put a new one in...who knows if it trapped anything that was making him sick. SH

the carbon in the filter is brand new i just bought it =]
Thanks for the info =]
Hes not "sick" perse just harassed by a wily psuedo in his old tank that ate half his tail =[ thanks again,

Yes I agree throw the carbon away, it dosn't work I think when it has been out of water.

And i assume its supposed to foam up when u put it in the tank?

Im keeping the carbon the filter for my 40 gallon till this fish is better =]

NOOO!! Rinse it well and/or soak it before you put the charcoal in the filter. That fizzing is not good. New carbon robs oxygen from the water. Take the new charcoal out and keep it wet with tank water in a ziplock while you medicate the tank.

Ontopic: melafix works great for fin rebuilding. The only downside to melafix is the smell.

My blue lobster is a nippy one and he has gotten my balas and my angels a few times in the past. Why just tonight my pleco fell victim. The lobster hit the pleco hard, both pincers in the dorsal and tail. He needs his own tank.

My albino was lying on its side in the middle of the gravel this am. =[ Breathing looks a lil laboured and he definately looks weak. Pray to the fishy gods my lil albino makes it. =]

His tail looks better today the wound on his body seems to have cleared up =]

I hope he makes it hes a nice fish.

Also thought i'd note there is a small fuzzy, gray, scab tissue lookin thing on the wound where the fin was ripped off. He tries to wriggle up to the glass, but then drops back to the bottom, gasping. This is strange behavious cuz he looked better yesterday BEFORE i put the medication in. Hope hes ok. =]
