Hi all,
I'm just setting up my first tank in about 10 years and obviously things have moved on.
I've just tested my old filters and apart from changing some "o" rings everything is working as well as the day I bought it.
I'm planning a 90 gal Malawi set up and the filters are 1x Eheim 2227 wet and dry and 2 x Eheim 2217.
I'm only asking as now there seem to be a whole load of "new stuff" on the market now obviously some is chinese and you get what you pay for but will my old classics be up to it or is there some new tech that makes these new ones better and if so what's a name to trust now?
Hmmmmm .......... possibly not the quickest of questions lol.
Cheers

i run a 2217 which has a rate of 1000 liters per hour (that will be slightly less as thats the rate they give with no media i think) on my 40 gal and does a good  job.

so having 2 of these plus the 2227 thats got to be almost 3000 lph for your 90 gal tank , 90 gal is roughly 360 liters so turning your water over about 8 times per hour should be ok ?

on regards to other makes i'm hearing alot of people going for the .....ALL PONDS SOLUTIONS filter with what seems to be good reviews. They might be a little bigger than what you'll have now.
as with all makes and models people will have good experiences and bad

Eheim are still king of the filters for me, had cheaper manufacturers that have done the job but are louder and harder to prime than the 2 Eheims I currently use

you will never go wrong with ehiem. they've outlasted everything else i've had

I have APS external and have to say that while it performs well I'm disappointed with the quality of the tray handles. I can't get the bottom tray out because the handle-to-tray fastening is totally inadequate. It's a shame and a very careless place to overlook detail...

Every time externals come up on here the same name gets mentioned every time. Eheim... I'm saving up for one now :)
