I've been looking for good fish to feed my SALF (South American Leaf Fish) and while I do have young guppies ready if the needs be, what other fish? I was considering an aquarium for my mums makeup studio (although she wants very attractive fish) so perhaps I could get breed fish in there, but are there any that look nice and will breed VERY quick? I can already cover livebearers, but I'm looking for egglayers for the simple reason of larger broods. While I'd rather not use feeders, my SALF prefers them...

Neolamprolongus brichardi and convict cichlids both breeed pretty easy. If you have a good sized tank for brichardi, my understanding is they will eventually form extended groups where several generations of offspring will help raise fry for the group. Convicts are notoriously indiscriminate in picking mates and can breed fast enough that you'll basically have to use the fry as feeders since you'll never be able to rehome them as fast as they make them.

Wow, thanks, I've been really considering those, but my mom might want quite a variety, but the thing is, she will deffo want at least three types of fish.

A trio of rosy barbs or some danios might be an option but the trouble with most of the egg layers is that they eat their eggs so you would need another tank to separate them. Obviously other varieties in there will also eat the eggs.
I reckon the convicts would be the go since they don't eat their eggs and you could harvest the young at will. I don't see how you can do it while keeping different species though.

Tetras? Those are beautiful if you get plenty of em. :) What size is the tank? Also, if you don't want fish to breed, why not get swordtails? (Male). Male swordtails have a tail, shaped as a sword! :) its beautiful. Guppies work too, but you'll probably get a bunch of little ones. Uh, If your tank is smaller, look into goldfishes. Fancy goldfish. (Theres a wide variety of em, I think. Research into them a bit more.) A betta or two might be able to work together. :) I have had my bettas (male) live in the same tank as tankmates. :) They're gorgeous, too due to their outstanding colours.

Bzzzz wrong answer, you cannot suggest the fancy goldfish for smaller tanks as they can grow big and produce lots of wastes that could foul the water. Smallest variety is bubble eye goldfish which only get 6 inch long.

Two betta cannot work out in same tank if one's male. Two female betta could work out but def not male/female combine.

But if you only focus on convicts, there's color morphs. Pink, black, marbled, blue and red tailed types existed.

Convicts breed readily and have huge broods. I bought a pair a long time ago and within a month I had 400 fry! The females have copper looking scales on their bellies.

try convicts those are pretty easy to breed, you could also have a ton of rosy reds in a 40 gall and hope they breed. but convicts or a livebearer would be my choice, but make sure to gut load the fish before you feed them to your SALF
