Ok, its been awhile since ive had an aquarium, but if I have a male betta in a small 1.5 gallon tank, could I add a female. The thing is, I intend to move both of them to a 10 gallon within 3 Weeks. Basically I could do 4 25% water changes per weej. Would this be temporarily acceptable?

Thanks

Do not add a female to any tank with a male in it unless you have conditioned both fish for breeding and you have a tank ready for that female 10 hours after she goes into the breeding tank with the male. Betta splendens cannot be kept together ever beyond the time it takes for a single breeding. After that the male will treat the female as a threat, an intruder if you will, and will either drive her away, impossible in your tiny tank, or will kill her. If you don't want a dead betta, don't try to house a male with a female.

Male's are better on there own
Do you have the male already? If not wait till the 10 gallon is sorted first

Thank you for the save. Id just like to add a small compativle fish. More than likely ill be getting the 10 gallon sooner than 3 Weeks just a worst case scenario. Any suggestions or should I wait it out?

Thanks, didnt see your reply until I had already posted

Also I do have the male. He was in detestable conditions, so I had to purchase a small tank due to lack of funds until payday

There is nothing wrong with a small tank for a single fish as long as you do the necessary water changes, as indicated by your test results.

Wait till you get the bigger tank, then you can get a small school of fish, there is a list of compatible fish with bettas on this forum
Get the fish in the big tank before the betta goes in, as the betta wont be territorial
