Ok, so my female Sunset Wagtail platy gave birth to 8 sunset wagtail fry. the male who got her pregnant was an orange high-fin now I just wanted to see the odds of the next batch looking like the father or will they always look like the mother?
i ask this question to see in my future breedings what the outcome might be

Heres a pic of a couple of the little guys there about 3 weeks old

My male red wagtail platy mated with my female blue platy, the first batch 8, were all red (not as bright) apart from a very pretty blue 1.
The second batch (17) were mostly red some with a blue sheen if that makes sense(you had to see them).
Both batches all had the wag tail!! Im sure I havent really answered your question but I guess its pot luck when you mix them.

Pretty little platies! It's hard to tell with genetics- could be luck, or if I'm correct- the hi-Fin gene could be recessive... and if your wagtail platy doesn't carry the hi-fin gene (which it probably wouldn't), you may never get hi-fins in this generation. I was curious to know what the outcome would be myself, seeing I just got 2 hi-fin females. Can you tell at this age that they don't have the hi-fin? I'm not sure at what age that would become evident... :/
