Question On Keeping Discus And Angels Togehter

I've read quite a few posts where people have these two fish kept together. I was always under the impression that this was a no no. I love both types. I have a 55g tank and would love to be able to add a couple discus. It's a new set up so I would wait until the tank is well established but would love to know if this is a possibility. So far the fish in my tank are:

2 small angels
3 blue dwarf gouramis (sp)
2 sunset dwarf guarmis (sp)
2 small tetras

I know Discus need a higher temp, isn't it like 84 degrees? Thank you in advance for your help. Jaime

tetras need to be kept in large numbers. and i would only keep Discus with their own kind and probably lots of neons/cardinals in a much bigger tank. I don't know about discus but i see alot of photos on here of peoples discus tanks. they are always quite large tanks, exceptionally clean because discus require alot of water changes and perfect water parameters. they dont like alot of flow or current in the water and i think they like some cover in the way of live plants. they are very expensive fish so if i were to get some then i would want everything to be spot on for them before i even considered it.

i dont think that you could keep discus in there. they are largeish fish and your small tetras, will probably get eaten, and the other fish might harass them. sorry

Angels and Discus get on absolutely fine, mine were always kept together with no problems!

The difference is, you need to set the tank up for discus and add other fish not the other way round. Temps dont need to be that high unless breeding, 26/27 degrees celcius is perfect and is good for lots of other fish too.

Tetras will probably end up eaten by the angels and likely discus too...

Difference between angels and discus is you need RO water, 100% guaranteed no ammonia, nitrite and nitrate (which you cant guarantee in the uk) and you need to live in a soft water area. I live in/have lived all round bedfordshire/hertfordshire and berkshire and all have a high ph and very hard water, def no good for discus, have seen people try it but in the end the nitrates built up and up it was unmanageable and the discus ended up wasting away.
