So I was wondering... I'm purchasing a 55 gal aquarium tomorrow. I already have a 30 gal aquarium. I'm planning on moving all of my 30 gallon fish into this. Can I put the water from my 30 into my 55, top it off, and move the fish into it right away. Mostly guppies sword tails and mollies.. Seems like it wouldn't be any different than a 30% water change. Also I have a hot magnum 250 filter that I will be switching over from the 30 to the 55. Only difference will be brand new rocks? Thanks for any help!

More important than moving the water, is moving the FILTER!

If I were you, I would move the filter first, then move about 50% of the tank water to the new tank (just skim the water off the top so that you don't get the gunk in the new tank), and then fill it up the rest of the way with freshwater. Then I would turn the filter on, and make sure everything is working in the new tank, before moving the fish at all. THey won't notice the difference between this and a regular big water change. Then, I would move them over to the new tank (once the temps match).

Others may give you better advice than this, but I think this is what I would do. :good:

Btw, you'd be surprised how much water 55 gallons is! I literally just got done filling my 56 gallon tank for the first time. I stopped at 80% to ensure there are no leaks before filling it the rest of the way and continuing to cycle a filter on the new tank.

Thanks man I plan on moving the filter because it's nicer than the one I'm getting with the tank. Sounds like your idea is about what I was planning on.
