Question For People That Own A 50 Or 55 Gallon Tank

just a bare tank with nothing included is rather cheap...
a 65 gallon tank is around 80$ CDN over here...

to give an example of how things go, we're shopping for a 90 gallon. The bare tank is around 150$ but with heaters, stand, lights, filter, substrate, decorations we're looking at around 1200$ filled up

then we add the fish after all that!

Seeing as how 55 gallons are popular though, you could probably get everything for around 300-400$ US if you keep it simple

The only thing with 55s is that the surface area isn't too optimal for the gallonage you get. You cen get them cheaply, 100-150 bucks as a starter package from WalMart but PetCo sells some pretty inexpensive 75 gallon tanks, they are 4 feet long like the 55 but are wider (front to back). I believe for about 75-100 bucks more total u could have a 75 rather than a 55 if you look for deals.

My tank, since I got a "nice stand" costed me well over $400 brand new.
Thats is for everything excluding fish, and the free rcoks I'm getting from duluth.

Since you are in the US, you should be able to find a Petsmart. I recently bought a new 55 and I shopped everywhere. Petsmart had the best price by far. I got the 55 with full hood and flourescent lights for $119.00. Sorry I didn't post a photo, I am a newbie and haven't tried to figure it out yet. You might just go to a Petsmart or LFS and see what they have on display so you can see the size.

I bought a 55 yesterday through the classifieds and paid $240 for it. It came with an oak stand and canopy for the top, a full hood with 48" fluorescent light, Penguin 330 filter, two heaters, fish, oodles of other stuff, oh and the guy threw in a 20 gal tall with an Eclipse hood (all works great). Just set the tank up in my bedroom and letting the water clear. Tomorrow I will put in some live plants and the fish. (I kept the filter dirty, and used about 20 lbs of the old gravel with new finer gravel that I like for plants).

ive looked at petsmart also. the 55 gal "kit" is 120 bucks and comes with the tank, standerd lighting, filter, and heater. a nice stand will be around the same price. 20lb bag of gravel runs about 7-10 bucks. plus any other decor such as drift wood, plants, etc. becuase you have a plec i would suggeset getting a seconbd filter around the same size as the one that comes with the kit. so all together i would guess it would be some where around 500 bucks going brand new but if try hard enough im sure you can get the tank, light/hood, filter, heater, and stand used for around 150. i just found a complete 29 gal hex minus decor for 80 bucks including stand. so i just might get it.
