For EI it says you make soloutions.I have got KNO3 and KPO4, about 250 grams of each.Do i add water to the powders to make them a solution. If so, how much/.I calculated 8 litres but obviously that is rong ahah.
ps- have not got a shift key

If you look in the pinned article it will tell you how many grams to dilute into 500ml of distilled water andt a little further on it tells you then how many mls of each solution to dose ddivided by tanks sizes (is a rough guide but then EI is not an exact measurement)

Andy

I rarely if ever use solutions for dosing EI.
However, some find this easier.

I dry dose, which works fine on 60 liters and up for most.

Tom Barr

I debated dry dosing, I may try it in the future, but I am fairly convinced that my danio will eat anything I drop in the tank even if it dissolves quickly? I guess that this is unlikely given how many people dry-dose EI and don't get similar problems :)

You could always dissolve the dry ferts in a cup of tank water first if you're concerned about the fish eating them.

I find dry dosing infinately easier.

@CheesyFeet, what size tank have you got, % of substrate planted, lighting W/G.

Oh, and what size containers (for the pre made solutions) do you have?

Andy

I find it easy to make up a stock solution for the ferts, so that every say 1ml adds say 1ppm of the fert, that way you can add an exact amount each time. The amount of power you add to make a stock solution depends on the size of the tank. Use the calculator found here, to work it all out. If you download and install the version is also accounts for the fact that there is a limit to how much of each powers you can dissolve in a set amount of water.

Yeah I tend to use those 100ml childrens yoghurt pots and then measure from my large stock solutions the 3 days doses.

Then I can just grab 1 and throw it in before I go to work

Could anyone translate the dry dossages in the EI sticky from tsp to grams for me? How do people dry dose, just use a tsp measure-me-bob or go by weight?

That would be very useful. I would prefer to dry does whilst I get used to all this lol

Plus I dont really have the space to keep loads of 500ml bottles in the fridge lol

I would think that when you're talking about dry dosages bein 1/16th teaspoon (these are not your common in the drawer teaspoon, you buy measuring spoons for this) that you are talking ¼gram or less in some cases and therefore if you are really considering measuring this out in grams you are gonna need a seriously good ( and expensive) piece of kit

I don't have any in my fridge.

I have 1 2Ltr bottle of KN03, 1 x 1Ltr KH2PO4, 1 x 1Ltr K2SO4 and they are in the cabinet underneath the tank, as is the Tropica Plant Nutrition whic I use for traces

I just measure my daily dosing into tiny 100ml bottles for the week (for speed really, pick it up, pour it in, go to work)
And the TPN I syringe 6ml into the water and then go to work.

My tank is an aquaqube 40, ADA soil amazonia, very heavily planted and nutraifn co2 with the aquaflow filter and 18 watt light, will upgrade soon.wisteria, ludwigia,a load of crypt wendtii, anubias, java moss, baby amazon swords, stargrass, straight vaillis, four leaf clover, hydrocotyle lococephala and a big echinordurus martii, rotala rotundifolia [sp] and to big onion plants...I think thats all lol. Will remove big sowrds etc once it has established.
So basically i should be underdosing EI because of my low light.I can't really do dry dosing because i dont have any scales which go to .0 etc.I see how it works now.You weigh out a small part of the powders and make small solutions like every week/I was thinking you did it all at once lol.I am keeping my powders in 1 litre sqaush bottles atm   .I tried dry dosing with a spoon but seriously, how can i work out like 1/32 of it or whatever lol. I'll just make the solutions.

Personally I dose it in solution 1ml=1ppm, couldn't be easier, you can always mix the macros together into a single dose if you want, makes it even easier, all this 1/16 or 1/32 of a teaspoon is confusing if you have been brought up on metric measurements which I presume most of you have, its really an American concept to dose it like this, sort of going backwards if you ask me doing measurements like this, but each to there own, JamesCs EI article give very detailed information no matter what method you choose, that should be your first port of call when looking for info on where to start.

for dry dosing i do 1/2 tsp of kno3 and k2so4 3x weekly
1/32nd tsp PO4 3x weekly
1tsp mg 1x weekly
30ml trace which is 2 tsp of csm+b disolved in 500ml of water

size of tank : 55g

you can proportion appropriately for your size tank
