hi ive recently upgraded my aquarium to a 400 litre so its not fully set up yet. I am unable to afford to buy bogwood for my tank so i went down to my local seawall and found a few nice pieces of wood, my question wots the best things to do before they are safe to put in the tank, they were traped in the rocks so they are already full of water ive boiled them for two hours and left them to soak 4 a few days do u think it will be safe to add to the tank :hyper: Thanks lewis

You cant really do much more than what you have already. possible pour out the water you have been soaking them in and put in fresh, see how discoloured it is in a weeks time. Boiling them wasnt the best idea as it will break the fibres in the wood and cause tannins to leak even more. usually pouring boiling water over wood then giving it a bit of a scrub is enough. good luck with whatever you do.

You should have gotten all of the salt and possible bacteria out. My only concern would be, since this wood is coming from the ocean, do you know of any pollution concerns in the area. For example, I wouldn't take any wood out of the gulf of mexico since the oil spill.

Just keep soaking, spraying and scrubbing and in a week's time it should be absolutely fine.

James.
