Question About Petshops

No offence to Honeythorn intended, nor anyone else on this thread, but there was a similar thread on a similar topic in discussion only today, and it got quite heated. If I knew how to add a link here to it I would, but for the sake of arguement I will add my 2 pennies' worth here also:-
From the individual's point of view, Honeythorn et al are correct, and in the ideal world that is the way it should be. But as we all painfully know, this isn't the perfect world. Whilst there is plenty of arguement for helping out as many bettas as we can individually, we only then feed the supply/demand cycle and it will not stop. However if we as individuals boycott these types of sales, we might eventually choke the market in to quitting selling bettas in this manner, but then we leave them suffering along the way, and there's always those that think a fish is just a fish and continue to buy them refardless.

In all honesty, there is no quick fix to this situation. Unless EVERYbody buying bettas did EITHER one way or the other in unison, the horrid situation we continue to see year after year will perpetuate.

There is one other way to get action in a simple manner, and that is to get the lawmakers to enforce laws that demand the better keeping of all fish, including bettas, to standards that are at their decent state to allow bettas in particular a decent home to live in whilst on sale.

Until then, no matter what horrors people see, no matter what people say, I feel it is wrong to criticise other individuals on their particular views, and even more wrong to try to force your opinions on others. Let people do what they want to do to help the bettas in the manner that suits them, whether that be save the sorriest ones or boycott stores, and instead of arguing, find some way to get the situation changed once and for all.

They are in cups to save money. There is a strictly fish shop near me that sells bettas. They are kept in these little bubble things that are smaller then the cups you see at petco. Sheesh, come on! The most I have seen them have at one time is like 6.
I'm not an american

Good for you...but what does that have to do with what I said?
