A few weeks ago I added 9 DNR into my newly cycled aquarium.
my intention was to get all male which as far as I can tell is still the case.
They shoal together often, usually later in the day, and in the morning are very active swimming around the tank, displaying to each other and a bit of chasing. This usually stops around midday.
However there is one fish that I think is looking slightly duller than the others and tends to hang out on his own a bit more. I'm worried that he's being stressed by the other fish. From the outset I had one that kept himself to himself and only in the last week he has been joining the rest of them.
However this morning during the daily activity I noticed some of the males were displaying that stripe across the top. When i read about it people say its breeding behaviour but since mine are all males I'm worried some may in fact be females.
Do they produce this stripe as well for dominance/other reasons or is it purely sexual because if so then I guess it answers itself?
