I recently lowered the temperature and did a 60/70% water change to help encourage breeding. One of my corydoras (i have 7, 4 varieties) is very large and i believe carrying eggs. I wondered...

  • How long after the water change and temp lowering should i expect to wait before seeing eggs around the aquarium/breeding to occur?
  • How long after the eggs are in the aquarium does it take for them to hatch?
  • Anything else i can do to help encourage breeding?

Thanks
Emma

they may not even spawn after a water change depending on wot species u have depends on how easy they breed , the eggs will normally hatch after 3-5 days but that if the other fish dont get 2 the eggs first which i a community tank is almost certain and 2 help breeding along condition them by giving live food daily for a week and then do a coiple 30% water chnages this will probably help as they think theres plenty of food so it's a good time 2 bring little 1's in to the world :)

Do you mean you have 7 cories made up of 4 different species? And as said, dont be dissapointed if they dont breed, ive kept cories for a long time and never seen the slightest indication of breeding.

Yes 7 corydora which are split into 4 different species. I have a bandit, bronze, Sterbai and 4 peppered.

Which species are easier to breed?

which 1 is the 1 suspected of having the eggs? out of them 4 species IMO probably the bronze or peppered are easier 2 breed but u do have 4 different species that as far as im aware prefer different kinds of tank conditions. u may not have a spawn with so many differnt species in ur tank anyways BUT.... dont quote me on that im still learning about cory's myself :) maybe some 1 else has some views :)

The Bronze is a baby still i only got it on Saturday. The huge one i think is carrying eggs is a Peppered one. If i took a photo would you be able to identify if it were or not? Do Corydoras breed within the species only or will they breed with other species? Thanks for all your help so far  :good: x

an above view pic and side view would be best!!! if i cant tell some 1 else should be able 2 , as 2 the breeding outside the species im almost postive they wont, so if u only have 1 peppered cory then the eggs if laid wont be fertile anyways. im not sure if there isnt a male present she will not lay the eggs again thats guess work. jollysue or coryoligist would be able 2 help u alot more with cross breeding and egg laying.

sorry im not anymore help lol relitive newbie 2 be honest when it comes 2 cory's and differnt species.

Quite a wiggler so it was hard to picture! x

I would venture to say you have a nice female paleatus there that is at least close to being in breeding condition. If she finds a suitable peppered male or two the peppers might breed for you. Most of the time cories don't cross to other types of cories if they have their own kind available. The different cories are not just different colors, they are different species.
