Ok, here's my story... Well I work at wal-mart(i'm 18 and in college, just working there till i finish, just so u know that's not what i'm planing on doing for the rest of my life, but anyway), and i had always wanted to get a pet fish or two. so I decided to go to our fish section, because i figured "hey, if i can save at least one of these guys it will be worth it" cause i hate seeing the little guys die. well i bought one beautiful red betta. well i noticed over the past few days he was barely swimming and he looked like he was kinda sick. so after about 4 days of him just sitting there, and after a ton of research i figured he looked like he had some type of fungus growing on him and it looked like the ends of his tail was deteriorating. well, i went to petsmart and i saw this other betta...so i ended up buying him too (and another tank and all kinds of stuff. i ended up leaving with like $80...lol). well i used the medication i bought on both fish.

now after about a week my first red betta is looking at tip top shape. he's
swimming like crazy, his fins arn't clamped down anymore, and he actually started building a bubble nest!!!, but my other blue betta is the real point of my question. he has a very light body color, but actually started getting a little blue color back into his body after i treated him a week with the medication. his fins have also grown a lot. and i do mean a lot in this short amount of time.

but the real problem i have is that he has a reddish rust colored head. it looks kind of like vericose vains do in people, or like a blood vessel popped. he's swimming around a lot and eats normally, but i'm not sure if that rust/brown color is supposted to be there. i'm pretty sure it's not that Velvet disease because it's just on his head and gills. but if anyone knows if this could be normal or if it's not, i'd appreciate your help.
thanks, Diana.
Oh, and i read somewhere that the naturally color of betta fish is a brownish color, i wasn't sure if maybe this could be the natural trait of the fish coming out in him or not..., just a thought.

A lot of my bettas have changed colors rather dramatically over time. That could very well be it. You can tell if it's velvet by putting a flashlight directly overhead and you can see it'll look like a velvet coating on the fish.

Just so you know, one of my bettas has a rusty color around her head too. She's getting more and more spots over time. She's getting kind of old now so maybe they're age spots.

The most drastic color change is with my guy Doodle. When I first got him it looked like he was red, white, and blue. Hard to tell because he didn't have much fins or tail left. I named him Doodle as in Yankee Doodle. Well, now he's a really cool eggplant purple color!

one of my guys had rustic spots on his head and my other one ... when i got him he looked pink... now he is a pretty blue and black and red o.o OOO AAA

thanks for the responses!!! lol, i posted my question somewhere else earlier this week and no one responded. lol. oh well...i'll try to get my digital camera fixed where it'll work on this computer. (my old one crashed). yeah he is starting to get more color on his body too though. he's turning a darker blue instead of the real pale blue, almost gray. be back after i find the batteries for this camera.

how do u upload pictures? i've tried, but it keeps saying "you cannot upload this type of file. i've tried everything from the jpeg and btm...or whatever it is. i don't know what's going on...oh well...any suggestions?

If you go to www.photobucket.com you can upload your pictures onto there and then once they are uploaded they give you three separate addresses under the picture. You just copy and paste the third address (IMG address) onto your post and you're all done. Make sure the file is not that big that people would have to scroll to the sides to see it. It's much easier than it sounds ;)

OK, i believe i have it:
so here's his picture:

yeah he is beautiful...his tail is short...it was really short when i first bought him though, it's grown probably about 3 or so millimeters. i was using some anti-fungus and fin rot for him. i first thought maybe he was a younger betta when i first bought him, but now i'm not so sure if that's it or if he did have some fin rot and this treated it well. but i think he's happy to be out of that little cup...poor thing. lol, everyone on here seems to have beautiful fish too. lol...i have looked at a ton of them and was kinda depressed cause everyone has "special" bettas, but then i realized that even though mine might not be spectacularly different...they're all beautiful and they all have the ability to brighten up a dreary boring day. oh and i'm sorry that picture was so big. lol, i tried to make it smaller when i downloaded it, but it didn't really work too well. but anyways, thanks.
 lol, i just wanted to put that somewhere.

Veiltails make excellent pets. No need to feel unhappy if you don't have one of the other tail types, because there are some absolutely stunning, very loving Veiltails out there that have been through a lot just to reach their new home. They're survivors...how could a person not love that?
