I just bought 4 angelfish and one of them appears to be shaking back and fowards alittle bit, is this something I should worry about if so should I quarentine it in my long 20g for a couple weeks? If I should quarentine it will it be ok with just an air pump for oxygen and a heater and no plants?

I quar all new fish. As long as the tank has a heater, cycled filter, & water it will work.

No it has no filter just an air pump. Do you know those containers the lps use to put the fish in before they pour into the bag? Could I put it in there and hang it on the inside and put a air pump in it? Or is this behavior normal when there in the bag?

If you have a 20 gallon available for quar, I wouldn't be putting those fish right into the 55. Sounds like you have an air pump, you could build a quick sponge filter for the 20 using some cycled filter media & a tube that's sealed on one end. Just poke some holes in the plastic around the bottom, wrap some cycled filter media around it, & put the airstone in.

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=85297 shows another idea, you could put some cycled gravel in there, along with the media.

I've had angels jump out of the bag, bash against the sides, display all sorts of wild behavior. I would still quar them.

Oh so they have to have a cycled tank? I may just put it in one of those holding containers and return it if its acting the same tommorow, thanks Tolak.

The filter is cycled, the tank holds water. You could get by if you do 50% or more water changes daily. You should never add new purchases to your tank without a quar of at least 2 weeks. I usually quar mine for 4 weeks.

Keep a spare filter cycled on your main tank, you can add that to an empty tank when you need it.

Yeah it appears to have stopped shaking but will quarentine it for at least a week. Thanks for all the help Tolak and if I have any questions about them I'll give you a PM. ^_^

Ok the 3 that are in there now seem to be sitting towards the top but them and the tetras seem to be rubbing against the angelfish when they get near each other and some possible nipping, is this just them setting up the heirchery to see who's the new boss? Also once I'm doing quarentining the angel could I just put it in the tank or will I have to re arrange the tank and take the angelfish that are in there now out and introduce all of them at once so they won't fight or what?

Anyone?

As far as the nipping goes, they are probably just sorting things out, it's pretty normal. Adding the angel from quar could go just fine, or there could be aggression. Every situation is different. I would try adding the fish from quar, just watch to see if there is any overly aggressive fish. If there are, take out the aggressor, rearrange the tank, & add the aggressive angel back in.
