i set up my old tank as a qt tank yesterday using the sponges from this tank that i used to help seed my new tank  does that make sense? anyway i added new ceramics and put 3 sponges back in the tank, filled with correct temp water and used conditioner. small amount of gravel and a couple of tree root ornaments and a small piece of new bogwood went in along with an air pump. i have only added 2 spotted climbing perch that are about 1 in each max but i am expecting 4 corys to be delivered soon and they will go in here too for a few weeks until fully checked out.
i was wondering if the sponges will have enough bacteria on them to accomodate the 6 fish, they have been in this tank when first set up for about 3/4 months and have been in my new external for about 15 days. i checked the stats for new tank and so far it seems that they are not missed as nitrites = 0, ammonia = 0, nitrate = 10. :good: . the qt tank reads 0 for all 3, i cant see the 2 fish causing much waste as they are so small but obviously dont want to run into a fish in cycle. ill keep an eye on stats but just wondered if it should be ok as i have set it up.....?

I think it will be fine, corys aren't big waster producers either and if I remember correctly it only takes about 24 hours for a mature bacteria colony to double. I'd just feed lightly for the first week after the corys arrive and keep an eye on the stats. :good:

yeah but adding sponges means adding to filter or sponge filter right??
shahrez
the sponges/filter pads and ceramics were taken from the tank originally to seed my new external. its been in there for 2 weeks and is now back in its original tank thats set up for qt, the only thing is i have kept the ceramics in the external and added new to the qt tank....
