Quarantine

Pet shops say that they have quarantined their fish.Should I trust them? I just don't have a spare heater and I just want to know if this will get me out of buying another heater.

bear in mind they've quarantined an entire batch. If you have an established set-up then I'd highly reccomend doing your own quarantine just to be on the dafe side.

A small heater for a QT tank should cost less than replacing your entire stock, should the worst happen!

personally i have never done it, but then again i had a freak dying of fish and stil unsure why.

if i was going to be "correct" i would say quarrentine first. however i trust my lfs and i know i should never get diseased fish so i dont then to quarentine

Yes, I too have been lucky in my "re-beginner" life in the hobby, but I know that its total chance. Really, Q-tanks are the only way to go. If you're just beginning you just have to decide at what point the cost/hassle of treating/replacing your enitre stock outweighs the cost/hassle of Q-tank setup.

My LFS quarantine their stock for 2 weeks before they go into the fish rooms at the store (quarantined in 2 warehouse units next door to the store) so i dont quarantine from there but for fish i get from pets at home id quarantine them..a small Q tank costs nothing really (especially when u compare with the cost of ur stock)

That is nice Craig. There was once a LFS that had a 1 month quarantine established in my area but the old man that owned it died and the kids didn't want to continue the business. I never worried much when I got fish from him but now I QT if I am adding to my community tank. The rest of my tanks are species tanks and get set up as I acquire a new species. Those tanks make it or don't but all that is in them is the stock that have been living together anyway so there would be no point to it.
