On getting a new 250L tank and half way through filling it up, i decided there must be an easier way which doesnt require buckets and a sore back.

I had a look at the phython 'no spill clean and fill' on their website, unit looks fantastic, however, adding the water conditioner looks like a very inaccurate process, maybe i am stupid but does anyone use one and is it okay to add conditioner that way, to me it looks like pure tap water is being flooded into the aquarium.

I feel stupid and like a complete noob asking this question, but im doing it anyway :)

Thanks

-- Also, if this is as good as it says it is, where in uk can i get one or do i have to order from abroad?

Hi Lolly123 :)

IMHO, Pythons are a wonderful invention! Just measure out your water conditioner and add it to the tank before you refill it. It will mix with the tank water almost immediately and the fresh tap water you add afterward will come in contact with it quickly. :D

There's another brand (Lee's) that is similar and has parts that are interchangable with the Python. If you find one, but not the other, you can buy with confidence.

I use a hosepipe with a drink bottle stuck to the end to act as the gravel vac and siphon the water straight outside, no carrying heavy buckets. Use the same hosepipe to fill the tank back up, just chuck some dechlorinator into the tank before i start filling up and jobs a good en!

Many thanks for your replies.

I will definately look at the other that you mentioned.

Thank you :)

That looks like a fantastic bit of kit, I`ve just watched the video for it

Shame they don`t seem to be available in the UK though

Yes I know what you mean, I cant find them anywhere here, fish and fins have stopped selling them because of supply shortage or something. I suppose its easy to get the diy bits to make your own? Anyone know?

Some basic bits such as tap connectors can be bought from any DIY store like B&Q in the gardening section, likewise hosepipes. For specific python parts try Ebay, including US Ebay suppliers though postage can be expensive
There was an old posting on this Forum on how to make a DIY python

I made my own Python with the some hose conectors and my old Syphon. Then I bought a little adapter for my sink so I just screw the hose on it and let the water fill. Its the best thing ever every fish keeper use have one.

As for water conditioner I just dump in a fair amount for the tank and let the water fill never had a problem. Can't really over dose on the stuff. If you did not add enough the fish will let you know by acting funny or flashing then just add more and its fine.

I`m completely useless at making things like that  It`s just annoying that there`s something like the Python that would make life so much easier for a lot of us yet there are none available :grr:

I suppose you'd have to do small and very regular changes with a python as it is harder to match the water temp coming straight from the cold tap. I always leave my water out overnight before a change to at least get to room temp (do I actually need to do this?)

If you don`t have a mixer tap can you not just add some hot water seperately to get a temperature match? That`s what I do

Just get a hose that's all it is. Run the hose to a shower drain and that's it. Then get the adapter for the sink put on hose and fill. The python is just a way over priced hose. You can make one.

was it your 'how-to' that i read in the DIY section ? somebody done one with instructions that i read, assume it was in the DIY section here.

Looks like a nice little gadget from that video.but for me i have to empty all dirty tank
water in the drain outside in my back garden, mums rules .
Would make filling the tank up alot easier though, might have to attempt some D.I.Y work :good:

You'd be guessing though as the water goes straight into the tank through the python? even so, shouldn't be far off i guess!

Also, i loved the 70-80s style of that video & that glove thing
looks like something my sister uses to put fake tan on hahahaa!! :fun:
