Purigen

Hey guys wanna start using purigen in my planted Rio125, running a tetratec ex1200

How much of it minimum would I need? Can I regenerate it using bleach then using api stress coat? Heard some dechlorinators with slime coat additives can render it useless?

I'd not use Stress Coat, I'd use Prime.

Not sure about how much would be appropriate.  What does the manufacturer suggest?

Or 100ml bagged is 400l

The 100 seems a bit overkill for what I need?

because unbagged it only comes in larger quantities, which makes it insanely expensive for a small tank.
 
I bought some sodium thiosulphate crystals, as it seemed cheaper than using up my prime to recharge it and I knew it wouldn't have any coating.

You can use Prime to regenerate Purigen? I've always used bleach (as per the website...) which seems dodgy. Then I rinse it real good and then dechlorinate the [four-letter-word] out of it. These sodium thiosulphate crystals that you mention and Prime, how does one regenerate the Purigen with them? Just add to water overnight?
 
Never mind, did some reading and now I see it is all still just to dechlorinate after the bleaching. Still seems crazy to me. What will those kids come up with next...

You shouldn't use api stress coat not only to regenerate the purigen, but dechlorinating the tank while you use purigen in it. Which means you should change the dechlorinator as well.

That makes sense.
 
And the use of the sodium thiosulphate crystals to dechlorinate is a brilliant idea... far cheaper!
