I just bought 4 beautiful little puffers. I'd like to find out which species they are. They are a yellowish green w/yellow and black eyes and they are spotted. The sign on the tank read spotted puffers and thats all and the attendant did'nt know anything about them.I think they are really neat fish,I actually got them for my 5yr old,but i kind of took a liking to them.We also have a 2.5 yr old ballpython,3 leopard geckos and a oscar.

My best guess would be the Green Spotted Puffer (GSP), Tetraodon nigroviridis, a brackish species that is occasionally mistakenly sold as freshwater.

Or posting here in the Oddball's Institute.

I think it is that too. It is the puffer that is now commonly available at places even like Wal-Mart.

I have colored stone in there tank now. Do u think they will b ok for say a month till i get a bigger tank and a better substrate. I have the 4 in a ten gallon tank and they are only about an inch long.

If they are infact GSP's you'll need to start slowly converting them to brackish water, and apparently once they reach sexual maturity you need to keep them to one a tank with a minimum size of 30 gallons for each.

For more information and a definitive ID, I suggest posting in the Oddball section w/a picture.
