Puffed Eye / Inflamed Eye Then Death...?

Hi all,

Two weeks ago my pair of golden rams spawned, to which none of the eggs hatched. A couple of days later I noticed that the male ram's eye was inflamed, which at the time I put down to one of my discus may have had a 'pop at him' when he was guarding the eggs - three days later when I got back from work he was dead.

I've just fed my fish and have noticed that the female now has the same inflamed eye, so I'm fearing the worse - has anybody had any experience with this on how I should treat it.

sounds like popeye, but unusual in small fish and rams unless caused by injury
