So I was wondering, what are the pros and cons of letting one wall of the tank go wild and just covered in algae? (my algae seems to be diatoms)

Hmm, not something I'd like to try and do.

Reckon probably could be difficult to control algae if let to grow too wild and also is unsightly in a tank IMO.

Can I ask why you are considering something like this?

For example food for algae eaters like shrimps, plecos and otos or something like that?
If thats what you want, might be better off using a small cheap tank, plastic bottle or something like that and simply leave somewhere in direct sunlight on windowsill, or can go higher tech than that. Not sure how, am sure have read somewhere on this forum about growing algae.

oh it's not specifically something I'm considering doing, I was just curious.  I do have a pleco though, and shrimp.

Unless your planning to keep farlowella i dont think thats a nice option

This is somethang i do with my tanks..

Cons: some people think its gross

Pros: one less side of the tank to clean, my various fish and critters eat the algae, no chemicals used to control it..

Also i grow duckweeds, which some people dispise
