Hi!
So, a while ago I started an all girl betta tank (6 in 10 gal tank). Sadly, one is alive today. :-( I'm pretty sure it was due to those terrible conditions they're in at pet stores. They need a filter! :-(
Over time the last one has gotten really swollen and bumpy. I used to think it was because she could be stealing the other's food, but now I'm sure she only gets her three pellets. I fed her boiled peas once, and I didn't notice a difference. I'm not home a lot to look at her, but I'm pretty sure she's pooping. ( ) Is there something I can do? I just don't know what I'm doing wrong! The tank is cycled; it's the oldest one I own! Plus, I have a male in a 5.5 gal tank and he's doing well. I heard they could get a buildup of eggs, but I don't know what to do about that. (Maybe I should just stick to male bettas and livebearers  )

Oh, and also she tends to hide a lot more now; is this because she is alone in the tank, or does it have something to do with her being sick? Her scales aren't pineconing . This is so frustrating...

hmm, its hard to dignose with out seeing her, if its dropsy scales do not tend to pinecone until the very end. i would feed another pea and then give her a brake from feeding a day. just to see if she perked up.

also could you give us the water stats that helps a bit

OH jeez, that is very swollen!

I'm not sure at all, if she were a gold fish, I would say egg bound  but she's not a goldfish

I know! She's my favorite.....
Could she be egg bound???
:(

I've been looking for photos of egg bound bettas and found these;

But then, I got a friend to look at the pics as her betta was sick a few yrs back. It had a disease called mycobacteriosis and says your fish looks exactly like hers did. She couldn't pass on any advice as her fish never recovered from any treatment attempted.

I think you this thread might be better off in the emergency section. Wonder if a mod could move it over?

Well, that's what she looked like originally, I think.
Oh, I hope she'll be okay....

Can you try putting her in the same tank as him, with a divider, so they see each other? or her in a breeding net/trap?

If she is egg bound, the male maybe able to help her 'kick start' the spawning process :hyper:

I can try that-- I'll move the boy to the 10 gal tank that she's in and but her i a net trap.

Edited for spelling

Will do. :good:

I'm still unsure how it will help if they don't actually breed
