hello.
I am trying to breed my betta fish, without success. I had the male and the female in the same tank (seperated but with eye contact), while the female got the stripes over her body, and became full of eggs, the male hadn't built a bubble nest.
So, i tried to remove the female from the tank, and still, no results. I have 2 halfs of Styrofoam cups on the water, and the tank is covered.
what can i do more?

Thanks, Ran.

Just read in someone elses post about putting a mirror next to the tank where he can see it, let him flare for a little and then he was more interested in bubblenest building (having just chased off a 'competitor').

Have you thought about the water conditions? When a male betta is happy with his surroundings, he will lay bubblenests.

What do your water tests show, what is he being fed and the water temp?

Maybe someone might be able to point you in the right direction x

Thanks for answers.
I have a female tank just next to the males tank, sometimes i let them see each other and sometimes not, in trying to encourage the male (instead of using a mirror).

I have no water tests, but i keep water quality realy carefully by changing the water once a week minimum, something like 50% of water, with using an anti-chlore.

I feed the bettas with dry blood worms and a tetra special food for bettas.
water temperature is about 23 degrees celcius.

Try raising the water temp to 24 - 25c. My betta bubblenests at that temp, it won't do them any harm x
