Hi.
I did a lot of changes :
- found a home for CA (the betta and him were fighting)
- bought a new tank for betta male (at that time big and healthy) was atacking everybody (including shrimps)
So I am left with
- 10 gal with 8 happy neons and otto and shrimps and a african dwarf
- 1.5 gal with filter and light for betta male

BUT, after 4 weeks of happy life the stains on betta's tail are back and a shred again. When I moved him in his new tank I treated him with MAracyn 2 and then bettafix.
It looks like I am temporarily fixing the fin rot but not complete.
This new tank has gravel from the big one and never gave me a problem with the parameters.
What other antibiotics can I use for fin rot ? Initialy I treated the betta with combo Maracyn+Maracyn2. The second treatment was only Maracyn 2. Now what ? I started Maracyn 2 again. After the first night the stains are already smaller .... hhhhmmmm.
Please help, I'm really tired of this fin rot thing .... Remove the filter again ...
This fish is a big eater .... but he won't touch medicated food ....

can you not feed him then treat him. our betta was the same when we fed him we put it in the path of the filter which pushed pellets down and he enjoyed that then treat him

i just used Finrot and fungal treatment from my lfs but that was all i used i didnt mix treatments
looks like its coming back for my betta again or it could be the blue growing back into his tail.

Need some more info his tank not that big.
How often do you maintain it.
Water stats in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate,and ph.
Any white edging to the tail, how much of the tail has gone, any holes in tail, or red streaking.
Do you use as heater in the tank.
Once fish have had finrot they are prone to it coming back.

Thanks for answer.

Fish tank=Water wonders - tetra (1.5) with Whisper 3i filter and airstone and heater (Marineland fully submersible preset temp at 78).
amonia = 0
nitrite 0
nitrate : I don't have the kit
ph 8
Daily (2) 30 % water changes .... just to make sure, but even if I don't the water params are good.
The tail:
- my fish is purple with veil pink tail and fins
- only the tail is affected, the other fins are huge
- the tail has one shred that glued back and one that didn't
- the stains :
-on is big (4 mm diameter) and 2 more like a linning on the shreded part
- at the beginning were a indigo color than it became grey (after Maracyn), grey at present
- the stains are very changeable in size according to treatment in the next day

Thank you again.
L

PS: there is no way I can NOt feed this fish .... he knows and he asks for food .... getting very nervous.

The more you use bacterial meds they eventually don't work.
You could try tetracycline but it will wipe the beneifical bacteria colony out in your filter.

Well, I read and I'll give a try to tetracycline. Maracyn also made my 5 gal tank to cycle (for a long time) so .... Finally I got that one stabilized ... I have a biiig female betta and 3 yo-yo but they are all doing very well (I did partial daily water changes during cycle). The best indicator for sligthly wrong parameters is the color of yo-yos. I treated that tank just to make sure I'm not speading anything (since the neon problem).

Do you know if API antifungus (with green stuff in it) will stain the acrylic fish tank ?

thanks.

Not sure ask in tropical chat more will no over there.
Good luck.

I tried Maracyn + Maracyn 2 again.
No succes. The spot is just changing color fron indigo to grey. The odd thing is that I put medicine in the morning and at the end of the day the spot looks indigo (which to me looks like healing because the betta is purple with pink veil tail). But in the morning the spot is grey again.

Resistant bacteria ?

I need to give the fish a break before trying tetracycline, true ?

The fish is fine, eating and param are fine. He won't take medicated food .... smart fish. I cannot believe it: he is trying it, spitting it, looking at me to see .... if anything else then goes to his cave.

Thank you.

Thought this post was about finrot.
Where is the spot on him.
Can you post a pic.

Need more info on the size of the spot and where is it on the fish.
Using to many meds the fish will build a resistance up to it like humans do where the med no longer works.

The spot is on the tail, the color of the tail is different in 2 areas and 1 shred.
The tail:- my fish is purple with veil pink tail and fins- only the tail is affected, the other fins are huge- the tail has one shred that glued back and one that didn't- the stains : -on is big (4 mm diameter) and 2 more like a linning on the shreded part - at the beginning were a indigo color than it became grey (after Maracyn), grey at present - the stains are very changeable in size according to treatment in the next day

Any redness to the greyish spot on the tail, like a circling or red on the outside of the spot.
Just want to make sure it dosnt resemble a cauliflower.
Forget the maracyn its not working how long have you been using maracyn on the fish.
Any white stands coming out of the spot.

Greyish whitish spots can be columnaris, they can have a circling or red on the outside of the spot.
Would of thought the maracyn one and two would of healed it but if its a bad strain best to go in with tetracycline as I find these type of spots take some getting rid of, had a guppy with one had it ages and tryed everything which was available in the uk but he died,he had finrot a secondary bacterial infection.
But the guppy spot was on the head.

It's just the color. I'll add pictures. Give me a sec to figure it out how.
