A while ago I posted that my betta looked to have shredded his fins slightly. I thought it could be down to the crappy plants I had in there catching his tail as he swam past. I completely replaced all of them. Now all I have in there are natural ferns.

I woke up this morning, turned the light on and noticed that my bettas tail had completely split down the middle. So rather than being a VT he now looks like a pair of scissors.

Water condition is good and as it should be, there is absolutely nothing in the tank I believe he could have done this on and the only other inhabitant in the tank is an amano shrimp that spends 90% of it's time hiding and the other 10% trying to climb out of the tank.

Anyone any ideas? I assume it isn't normal for this to happen...

I should add that apart from the tail splitting, he seems in perfect health. Eating ok (well as you can read in my other thread, he's fussy but he eats well if I give him what he wants), flaring at every oppurtunity, swimming perfectly, no odd colours on his body/fins, etc..

lol maybe you have a vt disguised as a dt ;) lol try to get Melafix, that should help with his torn fins, you may have to dilute it a little, but that should definately cure him, just read the directions on the bottle. And some aquarium salt should help as well :)

As for having the shrimp as a tankmate, i haven't heard anything against it, but i am not quite sure, usually i think the bettas eat the shrimp lol

If you look at this thread: http://www.fishforums.net/All-Of-My-Bettas-t193442.html

Scroll down to the one called "Drake". The colours and fins on that betta are almost identical to mine. Although obviously mine now has a big split right down the middle of the tail. Doesn't even look like a tear, it's a perfect split.

Will see if I can get some melafix anyway. Thanks.
