today i moved some of my fish in my big tank which is run by a sump.

a few hours after i added the fish i found the peacock spiney swimming up and down in the weir box.

I had to flush him thorugh the piping leading to the sump to get him out.

Shall i just leave it how it is?

how do other poeple with sumps stop this from happening?

I was going to put a grid over the top but i think this might slow the flow down.

I assume your weir has a "comb" at the top through which the water flows? Simply extend the comb to the top of the tank (assuming the space between the comb teeth is too small for the fish to get through, if you have morays or similar then that's a different problem). It's safer to extend up than cover across the top - if the fish jumps and lands on a cover, it might be out of the water for a long time...

It was just open before.

But it got in there again that day so cut a piece of media gridding stuff to fit at the top it was a very tight fit and has 10mm holes. This morning i find the eel in there again (striped peacock spiny eel) although he had been in there a while longer and looking quite batered, his slime coat was obvious damaged.

As normal i had to flush him thorugh the system to get to him but he flapped out of the net on to the floor I got him back in and thankfully he's still alive but not looking too great. I haven't got any stress coat left to dose again though until Tuesday when I'm back at work.

I then got some snake proof netting we use on the ponds and sewed it to the grid with fishing line.

I would now pay money to someone if he gets through again now.

Thanks for the reply.
