i have a load of baby Ellioti Cichlids (about 40 -50) and the parents are doing really well looking after them. I have decided to put some in a breeding net to see if they would still grow (i chose a breeding net as i thought water circulation would be better and there bigger than the small plastic tub ones) and then sell them when they get big enough. But one of my dwarf gouramis is some how is eating them through the net :S
i only put about 7 in there and after about an hour theres like 3 or 4. can the gourami kill them on the other side of the net by sucking them to death by what it looks like :( or is it because i moved the babies from the bottom to the top which shocked them? they have only just started to free swim.

Could i put sand in the bottom of the net so the gourami can't see them? take the gourami out actually but even my cherry barbs have a little nibble too :/
Should i get a plastic breeding tank thing instead?

Any help would be appreciated

Best thing to do is either leave the fry with parents or remove the fry to a rearing tank to grow out in. The gourami could kill the fry I guess by crushing them through the mesh, if you want to leave them in there you could put some plants in the net for the fry to hide and keep from the sides.
