Yeah Colin, the dead plants may be the reason for the yellowish water, since I don't trim the leaves, I just let them fall of by themselves and pick them out. I may need to start trimming the dead parts as the cells start to break apart and release its contents in to the water. I'll add some carbon to the filter in the morning, and hopefully that will clear the yellow water.
Neale, in the past I accepted the algae growth, and it did settle down. It usually settles down in about 2 weeks.
But this time when mid-summer came, the water temps rose dramatically and triggered an algae bloom which has lasted up till now (nearly 2 months).
Hopefully things settle down as winter draws nearer.
dilbert, the dying leaves may be the cause of the algae outbreak, since the dead parts of the leaves are covered in hair algae, I'm sure the green water algae is thriving on the dead & broken plant leaf cells.
