Hi all, i bought an item like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Aquarium-FishTan...1QQcmdZViewItem

off ebay and after 5 hours of it being in the water and a lot of pressure from my DIY CO2 kit, there is still no bubbles. Theres deffinatly no leaks from the bottles as i have put silicone in them aswell. I also tried blowing into it directly:S Any ideas whats wrong and am i just being impatient?

Thanks

Paul.

I think those sort of diffusers only work with proper co2 kits not enough pressure in diy co2, I bought a jbl vario diffuser for my diy co2 which is working a treat.

I had a nutrafin one and my mother threw away the whole kit when i was adding a filter to it to stop the mix going into my tank. I might just buy a CO2 bottle or one of those Electric CO2 makers. Seems quite good.

The electric CO2 generators are ok, but they react with the water in order to produce the CO2, not good in my books, they are also chuffing ugly! And there are better kits out there for the money.

** Crosses out Electric CO2 generator from wish list.** Geez that dont sound too nice. Thanks for the heads up on that 1 sam :)

BTW its now bubbling nicely on my DIY co2 maker but for anyone else out there having problems, make sure that there are no weak connections as the pressure is seriously high and it would cause a leak. Silicone around the bottle connectors worked for me. (I'm not exagerating when i say that the pressure is like holding a bottle of coca-cola before it is opened.) Also make sure you have a filter part to your CO2 tank so none of the mix gets into the device. It would be near impossible to get out.

Thanks for all ur help. I appreciate what you all do to help.

most people use a bubble counter and or non return valve with these ceramic diffusors.

That way the 'gunk' gets caught before it gets to the diffusor as well as the 'snot' that comes at the end of the pipe when you use a ladder.

I use one similar to this but bigger on my 2 nutrafin kits and it works great.

When you clean it (once a month I suggest) leave it to soak in a bleach solution in the sink.

(I use an old syring with a fine tube needle that came with an inkjet printer refill pack to suck out water and also to flush these items. Also to empty and fill my drop checker)

Cool. Well i invented my own without knowing the real term for it lol. I called it a filter. I used a urine bottle... Hey, my mum works at the hospital. I also made the input tube lower than the output tube.
Heres how it works. (excuse the reallllly ugly tank, its purely meant for plants and to grow them for my main tank as they get devoured in it)

I'll bear the bleech thing in mind. What does it do and isnt bleech bad for a tank? I'll also upgrade with an addition with a non-return valve.

Thanx for the help. Appreciated.

The bleach just cleans the 'pores' of the ceramic disk and kills any scum and dtritus that gets in there.

Yes bleach is bad for a fish tank and that is why I use my trusted syringe with fine tube needle from the Inkjet refill kit to suck all the bleach water out then flush in clean water then suck it out then flush and so on a few times.

I also use this syring to empty and fill my drop checker and to dose my EI ferts.
