Hello you all, I have enjoyed looking around and wondered if I should join but I had thought it cost something so I had just looked for awhile. Now will I get a bill?
I have a 44 gallon tank and decided I didn't have enough to do in my large yard so I decided to dig a pond one week-end so I could give a home to afew goldfish.
Several week-ends later I'm emptying out the water again. It turned out to be around 1300 gallons. Have focal point, pump, filter and plants. Can I move it a few more feet into the shade now?
Well the hardware guy helped me pick out some blueing stuff, to kind of shade the pond more to keep out the alge, I live in Tennessee you know. At this point I had my water balanced but the plants weren't growing well enough. So got a few fishes.
Directions on blueing bottle say break it down by the acre... alittle too much went in. Waited a few days couldn't see any fish, are they on bottom.. dead...blind..scared? Well I creep in and have to feel on the bottom...I have to go under but am afraid of the dark blue. You never mention this special blue stuff on your forum. it took two days for all the blue to wash off my body.

Is the "bluing stuff" they gave you Methylene Blue? If it is it is toxic to plants...It also has been shown to be detrimental to biological filtration and can cause your ammonia to rise or the nitrite to rise. It is usually used for disease/fungus prevention of fish. It doesn't say what happens if you put too much in but for a 1300 gallon pond you would have to put in ALOT to overdose because it says the dosing is 5 teaspoons per 3 gallons which would be 2166 teaspoons for 1300 gallons which is 2.8 US gallons of Methylene Blue. I doubt you put that much in...I don't think your fish are in dangeer but I would worry about your plants...this is assuming that the "bluing stuff" is Methylene Blue...check the label...Hope this helps...

It is called something like aqua blue. I have a gallon jug of it, it's suposed to be a concentrated blue dye not harmful to plants or fish. It is put in large fishing ponds here alot that have full sun. It kills the alge by shading it. I just tipped the jug a bit and didn't realize how powerful it was. I asked the tractor supply guy if there was a pamplet or something to tell me more about it but there wasn't. I guess it is for farm ponds.
