My filter pump has FIIIIIIIIINALLY arrived. Now, obviously i want to take out the other internal filter i've been using but am worried about how much (if any) bacteria has got into my new media.

The media has been in the tank for about a week while my other filters been running while ive been waiting for a new filter pump.

half of the media is old (coarse green blue and black sponge) and the other half (cirax, fine blue sponges) are new.

am i safe to take the other filter out? or should i let them run together for a while?

cant u just put all the old mature media from the old filter, into the new filter? im not quite understanding ur situation, are u trying to set up another tank or just replacing filters?

Just chuck any old media into the new one and set it going mate. will be as fine as fine can be.

will it need to be alot of old media? could i cut a 4" square piece about half inch thick? does it matter where abouts i put it?

sorry should of made it clear,

my new filter is the Juwel filter box system (compact H)

my old filter i was using is a Fluval U4.

so the media is different so cant use it in the Juwel

You can piddle around however you like with the media. This is how i seeded a small internal i had using media from an external one:

It cut down my cycle to roughly 2 weeks. I then left it a few weeks and swapped out the cermics for a clean pad and it was fine.

Ideally old mature media should be at the base of a filter so the water hits it first then rises between the other layers.
