Just a guess... but if the valve isnt plugged in, its prob closed...
it prob only opens when its got power to it...
they prob say 48 hours so the co2 has time to 'calm down' from being shipped...
2 cents worth...

I would agree, but the way the instructions are written...its says toopen the CO2 bottle thing, then turn the dosage valve SLOWLY and it says the bubbles might clump together or come out slowly at first and this requires 48 to 'get going'. Then it says you can plug in the solenoid.
I just dont get it. I cant plug in the solenoid cos I dont have an adapter yet. But I'm sure you're right that its to do with the solenoid.

Hold on you haven't plugged in the solenoid so therefore you will not get any co2 comming through, the solenoid opens and shuts but needs power to open and shut thats the whole idea so you don't have to keep messing with the dosage valve once you have set it up right. So walt you are quite correct.
You plug it in, to run in for 48 hours just to get the slime layer going on the diffuser. I decided to unplug mine at night anyway. I now have it on a timer with a three pin plug connection with the adapter plug that was supplied to the mct transformer.
I'm sure it is illegal to sell an electrical item with out the 3 pin plug adapter in the uk,
DO NOT REMOVE the MCT Transformer plug My friend that has a degree in electronics did explain to me why not because its to do with the action of the solenoid.
houndour you must tell the company you purchased from, you should have the three pin plug that the two pin solenoid plug, plugs into (to many uses of the word plug)
I know the instructions are a bit basic and do go back on themselves.
So good luck on getting the plug, then it will all fit into place, turn it all off, plug in solenoid, open cylinder valve then open dosage valve real slow.
It strange as everything is clockwise to turn off and to open is anti clockwise.
PS my wisteria is overtaking my tank any tips on prunning
I also forgot to add that you'll also hear the solenoid work as you can here a definite click when it opens and shuts.
