I have a pregnant platy, and was wondering if anyone could tell me about how soon she may have her babies. I have done a lot of research on it, and I think she is ABOUT ready but being inexperienced at this I would like a bit more insight. I'm also leaving on vacation in about 1 1/2 days and am HOPING she will have the babies before I leave, my brother will be here and be able to take care of them while I'm gone, but he doesn't know when to put her in or take her out of the breeding trap, etc...

I would say any minute now!!!

She will go quite square and the birthing tube will be pretty much visable. As soon as there are about 30-40 babies i would remove her back into the main tank to try and limit the number of fry she eats. Then make sure you give her some good quality food to help her get over it.

As for fry care, remove the tray in the breeding trap so they have more space and crush some flake up really fine, almost like dust and feed anything between 3 and 6 times a day. Keep the water changes as frequent as possible and try and agitate any left over food on the bottom of the fry tank

Welcome to the forum and good luck! :)

Thanks! :D I have her in a room with the shades closed and the light off in the tank... now lets see if she will hurry up with those babies!!! :shifty:

*sigh* Back from vacation, over a week later mind you... and still no babies!!! She is most definitely fatter however!
