yahoo eventually a pregnant guppy ive put her in the trap so when the fry are born how long should i leave the fry in the trap before releasing them :fish:

Not until they are big enough to not fit in their moms mouth.

i just put my fry in last night and they r almost 3 months old so depends on how they grow..ppl say one month but wait until they r bigger than the mouths of the biggest fish in the tank..just like omega said

I leave my guppy fry in the same tank as the adults and scoop out a few adults now and then to pass along at club auctions. I find that with adequate cover and generous feeding, the adults allow a large number of the fry to survive any predation. If you are intent on saving every fry, you will need lots of big tanks and will want to segregate the females into a tank of their own before they drop fry. I do that once in a while with mollies but usually do not because I have only 25 tanks and have no room for that many fry.

:fish: :fish: release them about 2-3 weeks I would say after they start showing colour :fish: :fish:

i have only 1 tank

With only one tank, unless you have lots of spare room in it, I would definitely go with the survival method where each fry must fend for itself, but I give mine a bit of help in the form of some java moss cover for them to use to escape the adults. I like to grow some java moss or guppy grass in each tank that contains livebearers. That way I get a high enough survival rate on the fry to replace any losses I might have and still give me plenty of fish to sell at club auctions or even sell to my LFS. The bad part about selling to the LFS is that they expect you to take store credit instead of giving me cash. When I go to a club auction, I spend money on good quality fish but I get cash back for what I sell. It definitely offsets much of my expenses when I can get a check in the mail a week or two after the auction. I recently got a check for almost half as much as I spent at a local auction. It does not make auctions profitable, but at least it helps me replenish my fish spending money without tapping into my bank account.
