Hi! I noticed a few weeks back that my guppy was pregnant. Her gravid spot has
gotten bigger and darker and her belly has gotten big and round. Im starting to
have my doubts if she is pregnant, nothing seems to be happening! I have
moved her to the birthing tank and her gravid spot seems to have
gotten a lot lighter. Maybe because of the different lighting?
Im sure she would have had them by now! Can anyone help? I have attached
her pictures. Thanks. :/

i dont think shes ready yet. how long has the gravid spot been like this ?

fluttermoth will defo tell you yes or no, he is a pro on tropical keeping

I would say she's got quite a way to go yet, though there's always the chance that she's miscarried and/or eaten the fry, especially if she's a young fish and didn't have very many.

Is it in a proper tank, or in a breeding trap? As being in those can cause the fish to miscarry due to stress.

Her gravid spot has been like this for about 2-3 weeks since i first noticed she maybe pregnant. It was a lot darker untill 2 days ago when i moved her into the birthing tank. I also noticed last week that sometimes her spot goes pink and then goes black again. I have been told this maybe because it was when i had just turned the light on, but i have also been told it could be the babies turning around. The head being the dark spot and the tail the light spot. As it is my first time, i have no idea whats what.

Thanks, but I'm not a pro on livebearers, not compared to OldMan; I don't even own a single livebearer any more!

Let me help a bit here. Your pictures are here now. I used the IMG code manually in my post.

I would say that your female may be carrying fry but is not even close to a fry drop. No less than 2 weeks away in my opinion.

Thank you for putting the pictures bigger for me oldman47. She is in a proper tank i bought for her. I didnt want to put her in a breeding tank i have heard they can stress them out. Do you think i should put her back in the main aquarium for now or would i be best to leave her where she is?

and credit to old man too, u both have single handedly saved my fancies life with the info you 2 provide.

i hope you can post pics bam bam if you catch the birth

theguys on here are very friendly indeed. i love it here i cant count the ammount of times i nearly killed my fish i dont know what id have done without these guys lol. :good:

welcome btw :hyper:

There is no reason to isolate your female this early. She would be fine with the other fish for a while. On the other hand, there is no pressing reason to return her to the community tank.
