hello im not sure if this goes in emergancy since i am new.

ok i think i have a pregnant fish i can see a orange spot on its tummy, and it has gotten really fat in two weeks, itis a koi swordtail btw.

if it is pregnant how long till it gives birth?

and earlyer today i had to clean its tank completely out, because my lil bro over fed it, he gave it a quater or a tube, so when i tried netting it out it jumped out of the tank onto the table, do you guys think it will still give birth, and would it die?

sorry my picture entity was too large, so there are no pics

plz help thanks.

This should probably be in the livebearers section but never mind, one of the mods will move it if necessary.

Firstly, can you give us more info on your tank please, ie how big, how long has it been up and running and what are your water stats, ammonia, nitrite, pH etc.

Which other fish do you keep, if any and what ratio of males to females?

If the fish looks ok after jumping out of the tank then it will probably be fine. Lots of fish have done this and survived.

Four weeks is the average gestation time for livebearers.

If you go to the livebearers section there's loads of information on breeding, which should help you even more.

Good luck.

These fish are pretty good at dealing with stress.

If it is still alive after its adventure then it's likely that it will still give birth. If the fish was badly stressed or damaged its belly while out of the tank then it may give birth to damaged or dead fry - If this happens then it is very sad. Make sure that any damaged fry are killed quickly so they dont suffer their injuries too long- if you have a community tank then put the damaged ones in there - they will be eaten pretty quickly.

She will get pregnant again - just make sure you dont need to net her.

By the way - it is more than possible to clean a tank with the fish still inside. Get yourself a gravel cleaner... life will be much easier.

:flowers:

ok thanks

btw here is some of the info u wanted.
it is about 10 liters,
i seperated her into that tank about 1 week ago, when i first noticed.
in there with her are 2 cherry shrimps.
not sure about the water bit.

right now my swordtail is sitting at the bottom of the tank behind the plant, ill or close to birth?

Sorry couldn't access the picture but just keep an eye for now.

By water stats I meant has the tank cycled? How long has it been set up for and does the filter contain mature media (sponges etc) or is it a new filter?

Sorry still can't see pic. Do I have to sign up to your picture host to see?

Um... I think you might need a filter because the tank will only cycle with media in it. Perhaps you should read the pinned articles in the "New to the Hobby" section of the forums.

How long has the tank been set up for?

When you say you separated her does that mean you have another tank?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm a bit confused. It's usually only betta jars that don't run on a filter.

ok i have made it so you can see it.

it doesnt have a filter, yet.
i think its cycled, i put in this crloryde thingy in wen i change the water, each week.

If it doesn't have a filter, it isn't cycled.

The chlorine/chloride remover removeris required for water changes to remove these harmful substances, whereas a cycled filter will remove the build up of ammonia (produced from fish waste). I imagine your fish is sat in a tank with high levels of ammonia at the moment. I suggest you test your water and perform a large water change if neccesary. If you don't have a test kit, perform a water change anyway and purchase a test kit as soonas you can.

mabe this will work now...?

i was planning on getting a filter soon.
it has been set up for 1 week, because i only noticed she was pregnant last week.
yes i have another tank.

also i would like to know, when the fry are born will a filter suck them up, and are fry ok with cherry shrimp?

Yes I can see now :good:

She could be pregnant although the gravid spot is usually darker, maybe early stages. They normally get a lot fatter than that too. I would put her back in the main tank for a couple more weeks and get a small sponge filter for the 10g. Fry are safe with sponge filters.

When she's ready to be separated again, put some of the mature media from the main tanks filter into the 10g. That will keep the water safer for her.

10g filter then?
how many more weeks shall i leave her in the main tank?

i think she has been pregnant for at least 2 weeks though

Google "air driven sponge filters" you can run them with an airstone pump. Probably the cheapest option and there's no filter holes for the fry to get sucked into. They also oxygenate the water, one of the reasons why it's better for your female to go back into the main tank. Without oxygenated water she will surely die.

One small filter will be plenty for a 10g tank.

ok would cherry shrimp be ok with that?

btw she looks fatter in real.

how long do u recomende it be left in the main tank for?

i just looked it up and they are well cheap! thanks for letting me know.
