Preg Shrimp?

i noticed today that one of my amano shrimp has turned red/pink. and it has small white dots on its underbelly which look like eggs to me. its in a community tank. is it preg? (i thought that shrimp needed salt to reproduce)

if it is preg what should i do to raise the young? are they likely to survive in a community tank? (neon tetra, plattys, betta, otos)

do shrimp parent there young or just leave them like fish do?

Amano shrimp can breed in freshwater, but for the shrimp to fully develop they need saltwater.

so what should i do? to keep them?iv got a tub and a spare filter i can pick up a heater cheaply. any advice on breeding them? how much salt?

TBH I wouldn't bother. I've read about people rearing them, but it takes a lot of effort carefully controlling and measuring the salinity of the water.

ohh right i'll hope iv got mutant ones which can breed in fresh water =D

Apparently, about 1 in every 10,000 amano shrimp larvae will grow to reach adulthood in freshwater which are pretty slim odds if you ask me. So while it's not completely and totally impossible, it's completely and totally improbable. I also agree with Ben, it's a huge pain in the rear to raise the larvae. If you are really set on raising the larvae, here is an interesting blog on someone else's success. Good luck
