Hi, i have a 55 gallon cichlid tank and there are alot of rocks. I find that the filter is not vacuuming all the fish waste so i was thinking that i am in need of a powerhead... I'm not sure where i would place it, any suggestions? Also am i right in thinking this would be the correct method for clearing the waste in the tank? Any suggestions will be much appreciated, thanks

A small powerhead can be placed at the oppposite end of the tank from the filter intake on the side of the tank pointing towards the filter, it can blow any waste over in that direction, you don't need it on all the time either. A good vacuming during water changes can do the trick. It might be worth considering , the're fairly inexpensive....... :good:

wow thanks for the fast reply! is there any particular flow rate i should look for? i have read that malawi cichlids enjoy a still environment rather than a current in the water.

I have to admit I know absolutely nothing about Malawis, in my own tank I rarely use the powerhead, I will turn it on for an hour or so every few days to churn up an debris on the substrate and the filter should pick it up, my fish are not big fans of the flow but they seem ok afterwards :good:

I'd imagine Koralia Nano or 1 would do the trick, with the right positioning, without creating much current at all. ;)

Sorry, forgot to mention, I think it's the Nano I have  ,very cheap purchase and does the trick :good: Think I have mine at top right of the tank facing almost forward, it churns everything up and drags some debris from other side of tank, filter inlet is below it so picks everything up :good:
