I've been in the hoppy off and on for 10 years and I've actually never used powerheads. Now that i have buffalo heads who live swift water I've been looking into them. But i have no idea how many gph to get. So i have a 38 gallon, probably 30 gallons after substrate and decor and a 55 gallon prob 40-45gal after substrate and decor. The 38 has buffalo heads and the 55 has julies in it. So can anyone recommend a appropriate flow rate for each tank.

If it helps, on the 55 i have a marineland penguin that is 350gph and a aqua tech as a back up which is 300gph. On the 38 i have a aqueon quietflow that is 250 gph and then a breeder box as a back up as it has a huge space for media but it is only like 50 gph.

My 160gph powerhead will blow all my plants over in my 55g. I rigged up a spray bar for it.

You need one of them fan circulation pumps, they don't put out a jet

Fair enough, what should the gph be on one of those?
