Powerful lighting not possible!?!

I have a 15 gal. The hood came with a 15 watt 18 inch light.


I wanna get more powerful lighting but all stores only carry 15 watt 18 inches. There is no 18 inch fluorescent light more powerful than 15 watts.

How is it that ppl can get 2 watt/gal and 3 watt/gal etc....???

The usual pet store hood is useless for plants. You'll have to build one, retrofit one, or order a special one.

You can find all sorts of threads written on it in the past. http/www.ahsupply.com is one of the sites out there you can order kits from.

I have a tank lit with compact fluorescents screwed into a socket from the hardware store and mounted in a pvc rain gutter.

you could always just add one or two more 15watt lights to get a 2 -3 watts per gallon..

Sounds like you have the same tank and hood as I do. I have Java moss and anubias under the globe and vallis around the edge. they're all doing O.K. New growth is slow but consistent.
I was thinking about building a new hood but I think I'll just get another tank with a better hood or make one and have more lights and different plants with highter light requirements.
