if an hour or so shouldnt really affect the fish overly.

I had my fish in a box the other week while I fixed a leak in the tank. They were in there 12 hours.

No issues at all. It might be a pure chance thing

I'm afraid fish do "just die" particularly the smaller ones. Happens to the best fish keepers...

get a car battery and a cigarette lighter to mains converter, cut the cig lighter end and attach to the battery when you have a power cut and plug in all the needed equipment, i.e heater and filter.

should keep it going for a few hours, the less you connect the longer it will last.

then when you have power recharge the battery

You can have a problem running some equipment with these. It varies from type to type and the item collected but basically not all of them give a proper ac signal out. The cheap ones only give an approxamation of the ac waveform and a lot of motors (ie your filter pump) will not run on this type of waveform it will just sit there and buzz. If you want to be sure you need to get an inverter that gives a "pure sine wave output" then you can run anything you like on them. However the pure sine wave ones usually cost twice as much. Some of the cheapies may work but the only way to tell is plug it in and see.

Never had a problem with the cheaper once, mine was only about £20 i ran a heater and pump while i moved house and worked fine all the way, the fish seemed happy to
