Potamotrygon Laticeps

With retics alot of them have there tails broken when they are caught to fit them into boxes.

Bad news, my small male stingray is dead!.

I noticed yesterday that one of the kissing gouramies wouldn't leave it alone and i couldn't catch the bloody thing, by last night i think the ray was stressed/scared and started to swim strangely around the tank and landing on its back, i removed the ray and put it into a isolation chamber and offered it some bloodworms which i didn't take, unfortunatly this morning the ray has died.
Water quality in the tank is excellent so it must have been due to the gouramies, lets just say that they won't be getting the chance to stress the other ray out where they have gone
I only paid three pounds for the gouramies but what an expensive fish they turned out to be :shout:

I cant see how a gourami would of stressed the ray enough to kill it there has to be another problem.

I can't understand it either? evrything seems fine with the water unless the PH isn't right it measured 7.8 two days ago but surely this would kill the ray so suddenly?.
The only other things i can think of is the introduction of the new Ray or the changing over from gravel to silica sand? the sand was all cleaned before hand and was changed over correcly as per the guide in one of the forums.
I really want another ray but am very hesitant to put another one in there, the tank looks a bit bare now only got the two parrots and the retic, what other unusual fish would be ok? that arowana of your looks awesome but they grow far too big even for the new 750ltr tank.

Is there a smaller veriant of the arowana?

Its not the amount of water a tank holds it the footprint when your dealing with big fish mate.

Kissing gouramies will harrass rays in a similar way to plecs and flagtails when they get a taste for the rays slime, it is perfectly possible that the small ray just couldn't handle being picked at by the gouramie.

I also lost six tiger barbs overnight and have a very fat blood oscar! tank was looking bare so have just got some silver dollers to fill the void, not going to bother with another ray until new tank is fully set up then maybe think about a motoro :good:

tbh i think your to eager, your fish are dying and your immdietly buying something else your not solving the problem and not thinking about whether the sd's would be compatable. Personally i would remove everything but the female ray get her fine then introduce something else. :)

Gd luck
